HANDS-ON EXERCISE
The following hands-on exercises are designed to assist you in practising the various lessons in this section. Where constituted, you’re encouraged to carryout this exercises in groups for collaboration and effective results.
Exercise 1: Manual Camera Settings Adjustment
-
- Objective: Practice adjusting shutter speed, aperture, and ISO to achieve proper exposure.
- Instructions:
- Set your camera to manual mode.
- Take three photos of the same scene with different settings:
- Photo 1: Use a fast shutter speed (e.g., 1/1000s), a low ISO (e.g., ISO 100), and a wide aperture (e.g., f/2.8).
- Photo 2: Use a slower shutter speed (e.g., 1/60s), a higher ISO (e.g., ISO 800), and a medium aperture (e.g., f/5.6).
- Photo 3: Use an even slower shutter speed (e.g., 1/30s), a very high ISO (e.g., ISO 3200), and a narrow aperture (e.g., f/16).
- Compare the results and discuss how changes in settings affect exposure, depth of field, and motion blur.
Exercise 2: Rule of Thirds Application
-
- Objective: Implement the rule of thirds in your photography to enhance composition.
- Instructions:
- Identify a scene or subject for your photo.
- Enable the grid lines feature on your camera (if available) to visualize the rule of thirds grid.
- Take three photos using different compositions:
- Photo 1: Place the main subject along one of the vertical gridlines.
- Photo 2: Position the main subject at one of the intersections of the gridlines.
- Photo 3: Experiment with placing the main subject along one of the horizontal gridlines.
- Review the photos and analyze how each composition impacts the visual interest and balance of the image.
