Class Organisation
The Fashion Design Class is targeted at Corps Members aspiring to become fashion designers or learn fashion design for domestic purpose or as a hobby. The class is a hands-on program that provides a solid foundation in the art and techniques of fashion creation, from concept to finished piece. The following are the subjects that will be covered:
- Fashion Design Fundamentals
- Machine Sewing Basics
- Pattern Making & Drafting
- Fabric Cutting & Making
- Garment Construction.
The class shall have a Governor; a member of the Class appointed to carryout certain responsibilities as slated out in Session 01. The highlights of the class will includes:
- Hands-on Practice with tools and fabrics.
- Exploration of Nigerian Cultural Fashion Styles.
- Opportunity for Corps members to showcase their designs at the end of the class.
Sub-Classes
This class is designed to accommodate the novice, beginners and experts. To ensure the effectiveness of the training therefore, the class will be further divided into the following sub classes:
- Lagos Class
- Abuja Class
- Port-Harcourt Class
These classes are so-named after the three fashion capital cities in Nigeria. Each of the class shall accommodate the three types of audiences (novice, beginners and experts) in equal proportion and to be headed by a Class Rep. whose duties are listed in Session 01.
Project Team:
Each of the above mentioned sub-classes shall have a project team who shall see to the success of assigned group projects and personal projects of all members within the group. This team may work-off class times at anytime of their choosing with the goal of ensuring that both personal and group projects are ready for exhibition.
Practical Classes:
On a daily basis, the class shall maintain a division of all participants into the following practical classes:
- Machine & Measuring Class
- Pattern Drafting Class
- Garment Construction Class
Participating Corps Members are required to transitioned from Class 1 through to Class 3 as the training progresses. Such transition shall be based upon the fact that such participant is competent with the lessons therein.
WhatsApp Groups:
To ease communication and bonding for all members of the class, this class shall maintain a general WhatsApp group. Members can join these groups by clicking on the appropriate buttons from the learning portal. Break-Out Groups:
Each of the above sub-classes will be further divided into Break-Out Groups by the Trainer and be headed by a Head of Assignment (HOA) who shall report directly to the Class Rep. The number of breakout groups will depend on the total number of persons in the class. The purpose of break-out groups will be for the implementation of Hands-On Exercise.
It is important to note that Break-out groups exists at the discretion of the Trainer. Where the Trainer judge it to be unnecessary, break-out groups should not be formed.
Certificate of Participation:
All members of the class who enrol for the Corps Mentorshp Programme (CMP) are entitled to a Certificate of Participation from Jomo Resource Center. This certificate is free of charge, members of the class can’t and should not make any payment for this certificate.
