HANDS-ON EXERCISE
The following hands-on exercises are designed to assist you in practising the various lessons in this section. Where constituted, you’re encouraged to carryout this exercises in groups for collaboration and effective results.
Exercise 1: Basic Data Entry and Formatting in Excel

- Objective: Learn to enter and format data in Excel.
- Instructions:
- Open Microsoft Excel and create a new workbook.
- Enter the following data in the first row: “Item”, “Quantity”, “Price”.
- Enter at least 5 rows of sample data.
- Format the header row to be bold and center-aligned.
- Format the “Price” column to display currency.
- Save the workbook as “BasicDataEntry.xlsx”.
- Share a screenshot of your work on the SAED Facebook page and with your personal remarks.
Exercise 2: Student Assessment Tracking in Excel

- Objective: Set up a spreadsheet to track and analyze student assessments.
- Instructions:
- Open Excel and create a new workbook.
- Create a header row with the following columns: “Student ID”, “Student Name”, “Assignment 1”, “Assignment 2”, “Test”, “Examination”, “Total Score”, “Average”, “Position”, “Grade”.
- Enter sample data for at least 5 students.
- Use the SUM function to calculate the total score for each student.
- Calculate the Average using the appropriate formula.
- Solve the Position using the appropriate formula.
- Use the IF function to assign grades based on percentage ranges.
- Save the workbook as “StudentAssessment.xlsx”.
- Share a screenshot of your work on the SAED Facebook page and with your personal remarks.
